When photography speaks feminine: Collectif Essenci’Elles

In a world where women are hardly visible and represented and the road to full equal rights is still a long and tortuous one, photography is no exception. It’s been and still is a masculine universe, despite great names out there – Diane Arbus or Annie Leibovitz just to say two.

It is with enormous pleasure that we highlight a French photographic project that entirely speaks feminine: Collectif Essenci’Elles – Une photographie au féminin. Its aim is to make photography about the feminine universe emerge, by promoting and giving voice to women in all their social, ethnical, physic and cultural differences. They want to propose something completely opposite to the stereotyped model that can’t absolutely represent women, but that is unfortunately the most present in the media.

Esseci’Elles is not a collective of women who photograph women, but a collective of women photographers who portray the feminine universe. It’s not about being against men, as they will soon be invited to join in order to widen and enrich the points of views.

You can also follow their blog here, a great reading to broaden your vision and deepen your knowledge of everything feminine.

Only in French, but don’t be put off by the language if you don’t speak it (Google Translate will help!). It’s really worth an attentive look.

  1. Thank you for sharing this wonderful project. I certainly like the almost inspirational realism they portray. (The fact that the blog is in French is an added bonus; I can practice the language : ) )

  3. very interesting! stunning are the pictures in pink for the campaign on breast cancer.
Languages can be universal if the content is shared emotionally. As for photography, have a look at this site: scamardi.com the photographer lives in Seville…
